A Place To Make a Difference

YouthWell Voices

Picture1

YouthWell Voices is a statewide, youth-driven, youth-focused, and youth-facilitated group centered on youth mental health. We believe there’s a great opportunity to bring together students from across New Hampshire who are interested in mental health or are already involved in mental health clubs at their schools. We hope to create a space where youth can meet regularly to share resources, discuss challenges, and collaborate on advocacy efforts to reduce stigma and raise awareness about mental health in our schools. As well as network and support each other to make a difference in NH.

With the support of YouthWell NH, we can access training opportunities, connect with local advocacy groups, and explore programs and resources throughout the state. We hope to advocate for youth mental health at the statehouse, attend mental health conferences and workshops, and engage in speaking opportunities within our communities. The goals and direction of YouthWell Voices will be decided by the members, allowing the youth to tailor the experience to what’s most important to them.

Meet Abby – YouthWell Voices Spotlight & Creator of Abby’s Patient Paper

Voices of Hope

As a featured YouthWell Voices Spotlight, Abby is courageously using her voice to help break the stigma surrounding mental health and inspire others through her personal journey.

Abby is the creator of Abby’s Patient Paper, where she creates handcrafted fidget items designed to provide comfort, reduce stress, and promote emotional well-being. Inspired by her own mental health experiences, Abby understands that healing is not always easy, and sometimes the smallest tools can make the biggest difference.

Through her journey, Abby has learned the importance of self-care, resilience, and reaching out for support. She created Abby’s Fidgets to help others find moments of calm during times of anxiety, stress, or overwhelming emotions. Each piece is made with the hope of encouraging others to prioritize their mental wellness and reminding them that they are never alone.

As a YouthWell Voices Spotlight, Abby is sharing her story to encourage open conversations about mental health, empower other young people to seek support, and remind others that hope and healing are always possible. Her willingness to speak openly about her experiences is helping create a community where young people feel seen, heard, and supported.

“If sharing my story helps even one person feel less alone, then it’s worth it.” – Abby

Voices of Hope

What inspired me to get involved with youth mental health are my own personal struggles with mental health. In treatment and in the community I saw what helped my friends, I knew what helped me, and it is always each other. When our voices are shared, lives are impacted. When we come out of silence, we grow together.

If I could give a piece of advice to other young people who want to support their own mental health it would be to let others believe in hope for you if you aren’t able to on your own yet. It can be extremely difficult to believe change can be possible when you are struggling, and I want those seeking support to know that hope doesn’t leave life just because it’s left your mind. There are so many others holding hope for you, even when you can’t find it yet on your own.

What excites me most about being part of YouthWell Voices and the future of youth-led mental health advocacy is knowing our voices are being heard and change is being made because of them. Being a voice for those struggling with their mental health is something that brings so much purpose. It excites me to think that I get to be a part of this meaningful advocacy alongside others that share the same goals.

What gives me hope is noticing. Noticing the kindness around me, the moments of peace within me, how I made it through a struggle, and how I’ve been supported. Noticing gives me the hope that can so easily be gazed over and missed. Hope surrounds us in so many forms, mindfulness and meaning remind me it's always there

After a stressful day I always love folding origami to relax and recharge. Ever since I folded my first paper crane, origami is something I lean on in times of stress. Folding the sheets and watching a creation form is an art that helps me be mindful and brings peace. Origami reminds me that to transform we must go through.

A small thing that always makes my day better is getting fresh air. I love the feeling of the sun on my face, a snowflake on my tongue, the rain in the puddles, and the wind in my hair. Being outside always resets me and I find that to be one of my favorite parts of the day.

If I could have a superpower to support mental health it would be to send mental messages to people struggling anywhere in the world. It can help to know someone is thinking of you and wishing you good, and I think having a little message cheering you on in your head could help bring whatever is needed in that moment for the individual.

Meet: Morgan Barry – YouthWell Voices Spotlight & Director Of Youthwell New Hampshire

Voices of Hope

As a featured YouthWell Voices Spotlight, Morgan is using her voice to inspire change and empower young people to become advocates for mental health awareness throughout New Hampshire.

Morgan is a rising senior at Nashua High School North and is deeply committed to supporting youth mental wellness. After receiving the People’s Choice Award in NAMI New Hampshire’s Magnify Voices Expressive Art Contest in 2024, she became involved with YouthWell New Hampshire as a youth volunteer. Since then, she has courageously shared her experiences and perspective as a teenager navigating today’s youth mental health challenges, speaking on panels and at conferences across the state.

Driven by her passion for helping others, Morgan founded YouthWell Voices, a youth-led initiative that brings together students from across New Hampshire who are passionate about mental health advocacy. Through collaboration, education, and peer support, YouthWell Voices empowers young people to reduce stigma, promote awareness, and create meaningful conversations about mental health within their schools and communities.

In addition to her work with YouthWell, Morgan serves as a Youth Ambassador for the Connor’s Climb Foundation, supporting youth suicide prevention, and is the President of the Mental Health Club at Nashua High School North. After graduation, she plans to pursue a career in psychology so she can continue advocating for the mental health and well-being of future generations.

As a YouthWell Voices Spotlight, Morgan hopes her story encourages other young people to speak up, support one another, and know that every voice has the power to create hope, inspire change, and make a lasting difference.

“I have been driven by a desire to turn my pain into purpose and to help others find their light, too. “

Voices of Hope

My favorite way to recharge is by going on a walk in the woods or simply relaxing in the sun and appreciating nature

My involvement in youth mental health advocacy is deeply rooted in my own lived experience with mental illness, which has given this work profound personal meaning. I have been driven by a desire to turn my pain into purpose and to help others find their light, too. This began with co-founding a mental health club at my high school, where I found my voice in mental health advocacy and supported my peers to make our school community a more positive and welcoming place. A pivotal moment in my advocacy journey was when I shared my story of how mental illness rocked my childhood in NAMI New Hampshire’s Magnify Voices Expressive Arts Contest. I won the People’s Choice Award for my essay, and this flipped a switch in my brain. My story really resonated with people and could help inspire change. This motivated me to pursue advocacy more intentionally. Since then, I have volunteered with YouthWell NH, where I’ve had the opportunity to speak across the state about youth mental health and share my perspective. I also became involved with Connor’s Climb Foundation as a Youth Ambassador, developing leadership skills while promoting mental health awareness and suicide prevention. Building on this work, I launched YouthWell Voices, an initiative that brings students together from across New Hampshire to share resources, discuss challenges, and collaborate on efforts to reduce stigma and raise awareness about mental health in schools and communities. I have been honored to watch this group grow and see the change we have been able to make across our state. I believe that we all have the power to make a difference, and through these experiences, my passion for helping others has only been enriched, and encouraged me to spend the rest of my life doing so.

Through speaking opportunities, such as the Dartmouth Health Political Drivers of Health Symposium or the Communities that Care: Youth Voices in Mental Health conference, I have the privilege to present my youth perspective to adult audiences of health professionals, educators, and mental health personnel. I am always inspired to see how much adults want to hear from youth about the change that can be made in our society, especially in the mental health world. Youth mental health is often misunderstood, so helping adults understand the realities of the struggles youth face and the stigma surrounding mental health from a youth perspective not only raises awareness but also leads to change on both large and small scales.

A reminder from my dad that got me through the most difficult times of my life was understanding that life goes in waves. Your challenges today won’t be your challenges next week, next month, or even a year from now. Always look for the light and even the smallest moments of joy, and know that people will always be there to listen and support you. It’s important to remind your people that you love them and you’re there for them, too!

Something that always gives me hope is being surrounded by so many other young people and adults who are passionate about mental health and making a difference. We are all in this together, and the efforts we make every day to destigmatize mental health, promote wellbeing, and treat others with more compassion and kindness truly do add up; we are capable of making the world a better place!

Seeing dogs, whether my own or someone else’s, always makes me happy!
