Reach for the Top Therapy Services

Professional Development and Child Education Recorded Series

This initiative will extend our trauma informed and family centered model that supports children with mental health challenges and their families and support system with the subsequent behaviors that frequently occur, with an education based response that helps them understand the unmet needs, respond through connection, and build the child’s regulation skills, growth mindset, and healthy leisure pursuits. This advocacy effort would be attained by recording 6 webinars on two topics, geared toward three audiences each, and a handout. The two topics would be: 1) A Responsive Relationship Based Approach to Supporting Children with Mental Health and Behavioral Challenges and 2) Building Resilience and a Growth Mindset. The handout would be focused on practical strategies to help children build protective factors to combat at-risk behavior and build their skills to support their needs. All of them will highlight how a behavioral compliance approach only further encourages masking and stigma to accessing care, addressing challenges with curiosity that validates their experience, and practical tips to trial that will support families at home, healthcare providers supporting children and families, and educators in the school system. These recordings will be hosted on our website free of charge and will be sent out to NH School districts (public, charter, religious) throughout the state, childcare centers, healthcare centers and more. They will be based in evidence-based strategies that combat the impact of adverse childhood experiences and mental health challenges and will be focused on achieving the ultimate outcome of health relationships with self and others and foster resilience through a growth mindset and understanding of the brain. The two topics will be broken up into three versions each, one geared towards adults for parents, educators, and healthcare providers, the second for children K-5, the third for youth 6-12. The handout will be geared towards adults supporting children and youth, as explained above.

Goals/Objective: To increase access to education, increase access to strategies, increase access to relationship based approaches, to increase the nurture and repair these children receive in response to surface level behaviors, to increase their understanding of their brain and body, to increase their ability to advocate for their needs, to increase their ability to trial different tools and strategies, and ultimately to decrease the stigma around needing help.
