Cynthia Day Family Center-Children’s Programming
The CDFC provides a comprehensive, family-centered program dedicated to supporting children impacted by parental substance use disorders and family instability. The program emphasizes family reunification, child development, and trauma-informed care to foster long-term stability and resilience among children and their mothers. The primary goal of CDFC’s children’s program is to promote the emotional, social, and physical well-being of children while supporting safe family reunification when appropriate. Specific objectives include: 1. Stabilize Family Units: Prevent children from entering foster care by providing on-site housing where they can reside with their mothers, allowing for bonding, breastfeeding, and emotional support. 2. Support Child Development: Track and support developmental milestones through assessments like the Ages and Stages Questionnaire and connect children to additional services such as speech therapy, mental health counseling, and early intervention as needed. 3. Enhance Emotional Health: Reduce the impact of trauma by providing age-appropriate activities, play therapy, family-centered activities, and outings that foster a sense of security, normalcy, and belonging. 4. Foster Academic and Social Engagement: Encourage learning and social development through on-site tutoring, community outings, and structured activities that build children’s skills and reduce isolation. The children’s programming at CDFC operates year-round, providing structured activities and therapeutic services daily. Upon enrollment, the Children’s Coordinator conducts comprehensive assessments with each family, including ACEs evaluations and Ages and Stages developmental screenings to establish individual care plans. Throughout the mothers’ stay, children receive daily, age-appropriate activities and therapy designed to foster emotional regulation, resilience, and social skills. Additionally, field trips and community outings, such as library story times, museum visits, and recreational events, help children feel connected to the broader community and reduce isolation. CDFC continuously tracks developmental milestones and provides ongoing support for children and their mothers. Upon program completion, CDFC conducts follow-up evaluations, with referrals for additional resources as needed, ensuring families have continued access to support as they transition out of the center. Through this structured, year-round timeline, CDFC delivers consistent, holistic care focused on healing, growth, and family reunification.
